2016 - The beginnings

The EFC Foundation and the Starak Foundation join forces in order to support as many students as possible. The stakes are high, because we’re fighting for the happiness and the quality of lives of children, who have difficult access to education and conditions which enable a balanced intellectual and spiritual development. Two close visions of philanthropy meet in order to act more effectively. And acting in the 3rd sector means doing more good in a smart way and serving as an example for others.

Up till 2016, the EFC financed 511 scholarships. Since the 2015/16 school year, the FRS financed 40 additional scholarships. Forty young, open and motivated students got a chance for a better life. It would not be possible if not for our collaboration with the FRS.

25.11.2016 - Saint Andrew’s Day

On the 25th of November in the EFC headquarters, we organized a Saint Andrew’s party, a meeting which commemorates the EFC founder.

The official part of the meeting was inaugurated by Igor Czernecki. Marek Michalewski, a Horizons Scholarship Program supervisor, talked about the founder and patron and the beginnings of the Foundation. Cultural anthropologist Amudena Rutkowska made a short speech about the traditional celebration of Saint Andrew’s Day in Poland.

During the official part of the ceremony, we awarded Piotrek Woźniak-Starak, a member of the Starak Foundation, for a year of fruitful collaboration and for the support the FRS provides our scholars with. The ceremony was crowned with a piano performance by one of the FRS scholars, Kevin Wawrzyn.

07.07. 2017 - enrolment for the Horizons Scholarship Program

On the 7th of July we signed contracts with our new scholars from Warsaw. We couldn’t have been more proud. The Starak Foundation increased the number of their scholars from 40 to 80 students, which is ⅓ of all the Horizons scholars!

25.07.2017 - Summer vacation with the EFC

Eleven summer days in Jastarnia and a strong, summer program including: windsurfing, skateboarding, biking, capoeira, running training, chess tournaments, artistic and music performances, bonfires at the beach, workshops with members of Greenpeace and Amnesty International, trips to Polpharma and the Museum of WWII in Gdańsk. All this was wrapped up with a workshop about the constitution and migration in Europe and the famous Champion’s Dinner. Phew!

Thanks to our cooperation with the Starak Foundation, the scholars got to meet film director Maria Sadowska and actress Magdalena Boczarska. Both of them worked on the hit movie “Sztuka Kochania - Historia Michaliny Wisłockiej.” They were joined by actress Anita Jancia-Prokopowicz. The three of them conducted directing, acting and singing workshops for our scholars. Young artists learned about filmmaking under the eye of professionals. After a few days of intense work, scholars were divided into groups and they prepared moving and creative films of their own. Scholars were further visited by representatives of the Starak Foundation - Piotr Woźniak-Starak and his wife Agnieszka Woźniak-Starak. The couple invited scholars to a meeting, during which they spoke about what they do and got to know our students.

15.12.2017- A summary of our cooperation

Thanks to the support of our strategic partner, the Starak Foundation, during the past year we were able to accept another forty candidates to our Horizons Scholarship Program. We also managed to broaden the scope of the scholarship by adding workshops with scientists and acclaimed members of theater and film community. Thanks to the experience of the FRS Foundation, we are now working on new educational projects.

29.05.2018 - Graduate Party

On the 29th of May, in the House of Fun and Culture “Dzik” in Warsaw, we organized the annual graduate party - a summary of the scholars’ three-year adventure with the EFC. According to tradition, the celebration began with speeches by Igor Czernecki, head of the foundation’s board, and by chairwoman Emilia Gromadowska. The EFC Alumni Association members prepared contests for the guests. Patryk Starak, a representative of the Starak Foundation was also there. Finally, the DJ invited us all to the dance floor where we stayed until early morning!

15.02.2018 - Enrolment for the Horizons Scholarship Program

The EFC Foundation, together with the Starak Foundation, has began their eighth application process. We have been financing 272 scholars within the Horizons Scholarship Program in the 2018/2019 academic year, 120 of them are financed by the FRS Foundation.

Education Inspiration – a new program for teachers

In the 2016/2017 academic year, the EFC Foundation launched the first edition of its new scholarship program, “Education Inspiration”. We are expanding and thus recognizing outstanding educators from smaller towns. We have invited the School with Class Foundation to work with us, bringing in their broad experience in carrying out projects designed for teachers. The chosen educators received grants for different projects they carried out with their students.
Our program would not have come to life if it weren’t for the scholars and alumni of the Horizons program. Students helped select the teachers who played an inspirational role in their life, awakening interests and passions. The success of the new program is largely a  result of our cooperation with the Starak Family Foundation.

20.07.2018 - A trip to Polpharma Biologics

During their summer vacation, EFC scholars who are passionate about biology and chemistry could see how their favorite subjects can be put to practical use, thanks to the Starak Foundation. They visited the biotechnological center at Polpharma Biologics - the biggest and most modern institution of that kind in Poland. Scholars could observe the work of the analytical and production departments, as well as the lab. They also profited from a lecture about new biological medication produced in Polpharma, conducted by Adriana Kędzierska-Mencfeld, head of the Biotechnological Department and Tomasz Sitar, an expert on cell culture.

First-year EFC scholars’ trip to Gdańsk

Between the 27th and 29th of August 2018, 81 students from 17 cities all around Poland began their adventure as EFC sholars. They all took a trip to Gdańsk in order to get together for the first time. Two days of group activities is the best way to break the ice. Our participants got to know each other through an outdoor game combined with sightseeing in Gdańsk and a visit to the European Solidarity Center. They took part in evening singing sessions at the bonfire and watched the sunset together. New scholars were also visited by a member of the Starak Foundation board, Wiesława Giedrojć.

A huge thank you to all the program graduates and to the EFC team for making this happen. We couldn’t have imagined a better beginning of a three-year adventure with our Foundation!

10.10.2018 - EFC Team Meeting in Mierki

October 7th. The entire EFC Foundation staff opens a three day long conference trip in Hotel Kormoran in Mierki, Poland. During the trip, we had the chance to catch up or meet for the first time, discuss crucial aspects of our scholarship program and the performance of the Foundation itself. We were joined by guests from the Geremek Foundation and the Forum for Dialogue. STOCZNIA conducted workshops which enabled coordinators and EFC staff members to define their needs and express their ideas for enhancing the program for future scholars. Apart from providing substantial financial help, we want to educate our students about tolerance and prepare them for a changing, contemporary world. Our cooperation with the Starak Foundation is an important part of that process.
