In 2017, our Program was submitted to external evaluation for the first time. The evaluation took under consideration the functioning of the Horizons Scholarship Program (previously Education Dreams) and its results. It also assessed the influence of the Program on the educational choices and mindsets of scholars and graduates, on their surroundings and their outlooks on future possibilities.
Everyone engaged in the implementation of the program took part in the study – graduates, scholars, parents/guardians, Foundation employees (including regional coordinators), school principals and teachers, as well as dorm employees (directors and counsellors).
The results of the evaluation showed that the Horizons Scholarship Program is a comprehensive and consistent program. It leads to an ongoing and durable change in the lifestyle of its scholars, who broaden their perspectives and have a new perception of their own abilities. They are braver in making decisions about their future, they are more independent and ambitious in their educational choices.
The evaluation revealed that despite the decrease in the poverty rate in Poland, including extreme poverty, the situation of young citizens in small towns and rural areas is still exceptionally tough. The Horizons Scholarship Program is an adequate answer to their needs, which enables them to enter adulthood with courage and freedom from insecurities.
