Winner of the Irena Sendlerowa prize

It is our great pleasure to announce, that this year’s winner of the Irena Sendlerowa prize for “fixing the world” is Mirosław Skrzypczyk.Mirosław is a Polish literature teacher in the Roman Czernecki School in Szczekociny. The awarded teacher is also a member of our board of experts in one of the EFC programs - Education Inspiration.

Mirosław has been restoring the collective memory of Jews living in his region - in Szczekociny and in Lelów. He organizes the Jewish Culture Festival “Jahad-Razem” in Szczekociny, he also coordinated the XVIIth Celebration of Ciulim-Czulent, a festival which celebrates the local version of a well-known Jewish dish. He’s the author and editor of various publications, such as “Lelów Jews - presence and traces”, “Szczekociny Jews - people, places, memory”, “Szczekociny through the eyes of locals”, “The Tower of David - Hasidic Jews from Lelów.” Mirosław educates students and sparks their passion for local history. As he says himself: “I’m so proud that my students continue the projects we began together, participating in a multicultural dialogue in their own way.”

We are thrilled that we can cooperate with such an involved and compassionate person as Mirosław. We’re equally glad his participation in the rekindling of the memory of Polish Jews has been appreciated and honored. Congratulations!
